This log house is composed of uniform milled logs that are tied together to form a hexagon. Due to the tight conditions where the log ends meet, it was decided to perform a combination of stripping the stain, sanding, buffing, and washing. The old stain has failed many years ago from lack of upkeep.

The client opted for a Chestnut tone in the Captures water-based stain and Cascades matte clear coat top-coat finish. The benefit of this Captures brand top-coat is when it comes to applying another maintenance coat in 2-3 years, the clear top-coat does not darken the wood as other oil-based coloured stain two-coats may do.

We completed this project by repainting the window trims a bold white and the concrete foundation a matte jet black. These final touches created a striking contrast against the warm Chestnut hue of the logs, giving the home a refreshed and modernized look while still honouring its rustic character. With proper maintenance, the new finish will protect the structure for years to come—preserving the charm and integrity of this unique hexagonal log home.
